When Noise Is NOT Noise, It’s ‘Freedom Music’

Also posted on my MS blog. Hence the reference (below).

2 subjects I’m going to address, need to address, but they are related. First off, I was surfing around ‘Snopes.com’ checking on something else when I came a crossed this following entry which I will comment further on after you read it and get the subject;

http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/wakeup.asp

My dad was career Air Force, when I was 5 we were stationed out here, a hop, skip and a jump from an Air Force Base. I have spent most of my life living under Hill Air Force Bases flight path. I have seen countless fighter jets and cargo planes punctuate the sky above us almost every day. I’ve been woken up countless times at 3AM by a Galaxy gliding overhead and sounding like it was landing on my house rather than just taking off (that whine and drone is the sound of nightmares when you’re 6 or 7!) the glass in the windows shook. I remember when the jets were still ‘allowed’ to accelerate to the point they created a sonic boom while still over populated areas, do you know I was actually MAD when they weren’t allowed to do that anymore because I thought it was cool as hell! I’ve seen some of the first AWACS (my dad drove us all up on base to see one parked outside of a hangar, then we always ran outside and looked when we heard one coming out. My dad could tell what was flying by the sound of it, since he spent a good deal of his Air Force career as a mechanic keeping those things flying!) I’ve seen the Space Shuttle come in and go out on the back of a jumbo jet and I’ve seen the first Stealth (both F-117 and B2) aircraft flying over us and also on ground at the air shows HAFB has. I saw one in the late 80’s that was surrounded by heavily armed military dudes w/ big guns and we spent equal time marveling at both the jet and the guns! Sure I’ve complained about a series of F-15’s or 16’s roaring out overhead while I was on the phone, but I’m a complainer, it makes me feel better, but I’ve always fully understood that not only do I live within walking distance of the Base, but I understand why the base is there and what it does, not to mention why the jets fly their training runs, etc. Nobody moves here and wakes up one morning in complete shock an horror at a jet going over like they had no idea they were even here. It’s not a Dreamland or Area 51 and isn’t top secret. I can see it from my roof. But locally, here to there have been people writing letters into the papers and complaining about the noise and air traffic! I hate to say this, because it’s an overused phrase here in MormonLand, but if you don’t like it… MOVE! I don’t think you actually lived here before the base was built. I, personally love the ‘noise’. I’ve gone overseas and to other States visiting or on vacation and the FIRST thing I always notice is the LACK of jets! At first its just weird, then it gets empty and sad feeling… I actually get homesick for the sound of the air traffic! I know soon I’m going to move from here, but because of the base and the roar of the jets would never, ever be a reason. Not even close. I will miss that sound(s) more than the Mtns or anything else I’ve grown used to about where I live. I’m glad the article that prompted my blog ended ‘happily’ with the gentleman apologizing and understanding/learning something. It just reminded me of what a bunch of complainers we can be (I’m not innocent) about something that is here to help and protect us. The sound of these jets are not noise to me, but Freedom music.

Secondly; I just had to say, although I did vote for President Obama and am of course, glad he won. I have read quite abit of mean, nasty and bitter comments from other peoples (MS) pages. I will defend to the death your right to say it and post it all over your headlines & pages & blogs, but I feel I must also add my 2 cents. Give the guy a chance. Seriously. We know you’re not actually going to move to Canada or Mexico (that one puzzles me) or buy an island and declare yourself a nation. If McCain had won, I’d be doing this: Dealing with it. He would be the President and as a Proud American I would respect that. The racism etc is just fucked up tho. Seriously. Do us both a favor and if you’re one of ‘those’ please delete yourself from my friends immediatly, I don’t care how long I’ve known you or how we ‘know’ each other, that is something I’m beyond tired of and do not want to deal with in this day and age. It’s ignorant and uneducated. And disgusting. Most of us chalkies have no idea how many of us actually do have African American/Native American and/or Hispanic blood in them… well, I do, but that because I researched it. I could never claim to be a ‘pure’ chalkie, that’s fo sho!
